The cleaning and tidying expert solves one of the most common problems when you get ready every day with your favourite cosmetics.
There is a veritable legion of beauty experts who know everything there is to know about products and enjoy trying out techniques and trends on their faces. Especially after the rise of content creators specialising in make-up on social media, this passion continues to grow.
So it’s no surprise that this week’s question to “La Ordenatriz” via Magas is related to this topic. Several people have come to the advice column to find out how they can remove make-up stains from their clothes, tired of not being able to completely remove the residue.
The first thing to explain is why they are so resistant and do not come out with a traditional wash. This is due to the formulation of cosmetics such as mascara or foundation that we apply to our faces.
They usually contain ingredients such as oils, waxes and highly intense pigments, which cause them to adhere to textile fibres and make them difficult to remove. In addition, most of these items have waterproof properties, meaning they are resistant to water. This is great for looking perfect for hours, but not so good for stains.
It is quite common for the collars of shirts, jumpers, dresses, etc. to end up with traces of make-up. Added to this are cosmetic accidents, such as spilling liquid on clothing or mascara ending up on one of your garments.
Furthermore, no matter how much you wash your face, sometimes towels get stained with residue that you haven’t managed to remove completely from your face. So what can we do? Begoña Pérez has a simple, quick and, above all, very effective trick to remove them completely.
If you’ve got mascara on your clothes, you need a waterproof two-phase make-up remover, the kind with two textures that you have to shake well before using. Pour it directly onto the piece of fabric in question and rub with your hands or a cloth until it’s removed.
When there are only a few traces left, finish off under running water and put it in the washing machine to complete the process.
For problems with foundation, another product is needed: isopropyl alcohol, which you can find in chemists and hardware stores. The operation is simple: pour a little onto the stain and rub it with a clean microfibre cloth.
You will see how the dirt is quickly removed, but to ensure it is completely clean, it is best to put the garment in the washing machine immediately, before it dries, and wash it as usual. When the cycle is finished, you will see that your clothes are spotless again.
It is important to act as quickly as possible so that the products do not become excessively embedded in the fabric, as this will make the stain more difficult to remove.
