Cleaning the oven is one of the most tedious household chores, as removing accumulated grease can often be a difficult task. However, there is a simple and inexpensive method that more and more people are using: spraying white vinegar inside the oven.
Vinegar is a natural acid that acts as a degreaser and disinfectant.
When applied to the oven walls, trays and racks, it dissolves accumulated grease and burnt-on food residue, making it much easier to remove.
It also neutralises odours from previous meals and leaves the oven ready for its next use, preventing flavours from mixing with food.
How to clean your oven with vinegar
- Before you begin, make sure the oven is turned off and has cooled down.
- Spray white vinegar on all interior surfaces: walls, trays and shelves.
- Leave for 10-15 minutes to allow the vinegar to properly penetrate the grease.
- Gently wipe with a sponge or damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive materials that could scratch the oven.
- Rinse with water to remove any vinegar residue.
Additional tips for deep cleaning
- If you have stubborn stains, mix vinegar with baking soda to form a paste. Apply it to the stain and leave it for a few minutes before scrubbing.
- Do not use vinegar in convection ovens if they have exposed, unprotected electronic components.
- I repeated the cleaning once a month to keep the oven spotless and odour-free.
